Ian Hughes is an adventurer from Liverpool aiming to complete the Explorer’s Grand Slam: climbing the Seven Summits and skiing solo to both Poles.

A former soldier, deep-sea diver, and entrepreneur, he has already summited Everest, Denali, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, and Carstensz Pyramid. This winter he will ski 730 miles solo and unsupported across Antarctica to the South Pole, raising £100,000 for veterans’ mental health through the charity Always a Rifleman.

Follow the South Pole Solo

In November, Ian will ski 730 miles (1,175 km) solo and unsupported across Antarctica, hauling a 115 kg sled in temperatures as low as –50°C. The journey is expected to take around 60 days, with Ian spending Christmas in a tent “in the middle of nowhere.”

This expedition is part of his attempt to complete the Explorer’s Grand Slam, while raising £100,000 for the veterans’ mental health charity Always a Rifleman.
