Kilimanjaro

First of the Seven Summits

Kilimanjaro was the first step in this journey. I climbed it in January 2024, following one of the classic routes to the summit at 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa.

It’s often seen as a trekking peak, but it was still a challenge. Long days on the trail, big altitude gains, and cold nights above the clouds made it clear this wasn’t just a hike. The summit push was slow and breathless, but I made it to the top.

This climb was more than just a tick on a list. It marked the beginning of the Seven Summits goal, and the bigger Grand Slam challenge.

It showed me what altitude feels like, what gear works, and what kind of mindset I’d need to take into the harder climbs ahead. Everything started here.
